Hercai: Amor y Venganza is rocking Latino audiences in the United States! In less than a week, the Turkish soap opera starring Ebru Şahin and Akin Akinözü has been crowned as the most watched easily beating out current Mexican programming. Telemundo TV, the outlet airing the series showed an increase on the third day of transmission but by the fourth day it was abundantly clear that the show was able to dominate Latino primetime audiences. Hercai: Amor y Venganza has become the new rating boom.
With a 1.3 million total viewership Hercai was successful in winning over the coveted 18 to 49 demographic that is important to advertisers with 530 thousand, easily dominating Latin television programming.
Foreign programming has been slowly making progress with US audiences over the past decade with digital platforms like Netflix, but lagged with TV channels. Now with the addition of Turkish programming on TV outlets like Telemundo and Univision, the genre is bound to capture US audiences. The Washington Post’s recent recognition of the genre is telling. Good TV translates in any language.
